| JACKSONVILLE, April 28, 2008 – The Jacksonville Aviation Authority announced today that it will file its master plan for Craig Airport with the Federal Aviation Administration this week. The master plan, which public airports must submit to the FAA every five years, will be reviewed and returned with comments to the JAA in several months. Once approved by the FAA, the master plan will be brought back to the JAA Board of Directors for their review and approval. Among other updates and changes, the required FAA master plan will include the plans for the extension of Craig Airport’s main runway from 4,000 feet to 5,600 feet based on the current and forecasted operations at Craig. Earlier this month, the Jacksonville City Council approved the JAA’s request to withdraw an amendment to Craig’s comprehensive plan that would have allowed the airport to extend to runway. JAA Executive Director and CEO John Clark told board members that the amendment may have put Craig in conflict with the airport’s original deed and FAA restrictions. In the meantime, JAA Chair Cyrus Jollivette established an “ad hoc” committee of board members to monitor the progress of the master plan and have direct interaction with the community. Jim McCollum will chair the committee and its members will include Mary Burnett, Ron Weaver and Deborah Pass. |
